Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid year, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the American major.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - caused him falling of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-term coach Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first trophy since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface from March of the previous year.

The win also means he has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one various events.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my children together, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive approach and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had caused some to doubt if his skill to perform at the elite level was finished.

Yet the player has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play assertively, supported by an improved serve.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players traded breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden professional victory, took control to push for a decider.

The opponent rescued 4 early-game chances in a competitive third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner earned victory with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
